Islamabad IG Ali Nasir Rizvi transferred, appointed NCCIA director general

The federal government on Saturday transferred BS-20 officer Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi from his post as inspector general of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and appointed him director general of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), according to a notification issued by the Establishment Division.

The notification said the transfer and appointment had been made with the approval of the federal government under Section 29(3) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, as amended by the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act, 2025, and Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973. The order takes “immediate effect and until further orders”.

Under Section 29(3), the government can appoint the NCCIA chief for a non-extendable term of three years.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Rizvi’s post will be filled by Captain (Retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, who is currently serving “under the Government of Punjab”, according to a separate notification.

Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi was appointed Islamabad IG on March 29, 2024, after having served in Punjab.
