According to information obtained from the Jerusalem Post, Israeli journalist and Middle East researcher Suzan Quitaz argued that Israel should provide arms support to Kurdish groups in Iran and support the establishment of an independent so-called Kurdistan.
According to the Greek media outlet Pentapostagma, it was argued that such a partnership could serve as a counterbalance to the influence of Iran and Türkiye in the region.
An analysis published in the Jerusalem Post focused on the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), which operates in Iran and has been designated a terrorist organization by the Tehran government. The article stated that a partnership with PAK is “also in Israel’s strategic interest.”
The article noted that there has been a secret collaboration between Israel and Iranian Kurds dating back to the 1960s.
The analysis noted that the approximately 12 to 15 million Iranian Kurds living in northwestern Iran hold strategic importance for Israel, and argued that Israel’s arming of Iranian Kurdish groups could weaken the Tehran government’s internal control.
In the section regarding Türkiye, the report cited President Erdoğan’s remarks about Israel in a speech delivered on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, as well as Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s statements prior to the NATO Summit, claiming that these were indicative of Türkiye’s increasingly hardline stance toward Israel.
According to Greek media, the article also addressed the persistent accusation that efforts are underway to establish a “second Israel” in the Middle East.
The article, which also included assessments by Prof. Ofra Bengio of Tel Aviv University, argued that the “second Israel” rhetoric aims to discredit Jews.
