Italy's Aircraft Carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi Arrives in Jakarta - Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Italy's aircraft carrier ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi arrived at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Friday, September 18. The arrival marks the vessel's first visit to Indonesia after its voyage from Italy.

The carrier entered the port area at 7:58 a.m. local time and docked at Pier 107, according to ANTARA's report from the scene.

An Indonesian military marching band welcomed the vessel with several songs, including the Betawi traditional song "Si Jali Jali."

The welcoming ceremony was attended by several Indonesian military officials, including Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief of Staff Air Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono.

The Giuseppe Garibaldi left Italy on August 24 and was accompanied by Italian Navy warships during its journey.

Indonesian Navy Information Service Chief First Admiral Tunggul said the carrier stopped in several countries during the voyage, including Sri Lanka.

From Sri Lanka, the carrier sailed toward Indonesia and entered Indonesian waters through Indonesian Archipelagic Sea Lane I, or ALKI I, via the waters off Bangka in Bangka Belitung.

Two Indonesian Navy warships, KRI Brawijaya-320 and KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, escorted the carrier after it entered Indonesian waters.
