IUML’s expatriate body seeks alternative forum to replace Loka Kerala Sabha

The World Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), an organisation representing Malayali expatriates affiliated with the Indian Union Muslim League(IUML), has urged the United Democratic Front-led State government to set up an alternative and transparent system to replace the Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS), an annual platform launched by the previous dispensation to bring the Malayali diaspora under one roof.
K.P. Mohammed Kutty, KMCC president, and other functionaries told the media here on Monday (September 28, 2026) that the government could have held discussions with expatriate organisations before “hurriedly” deciding to stop the LKS in its current format. However, the KMCC functionaries said they were not questioning the government’s policy decisions in this regard.
They pointed out that the previous Left Democratic Front government could have misused the LKS for its political propaganda. The KMCC leaders noted that the LKS was not an executive agency, but just another platform for the formation of ideas and coordination between the expatriates. It would not be fair to evaluate its failures and successes using the yardsticks to assess the performance of an executive agency or a government department. It was up to the various government departments and agencies such as NORKA ROOTS to implement the ideas proposed at the LKS sessions. If there were financial lapses or mistakes in the activities of the LKS, they should be corrected, Mr. Mohammed Kutty said. It would not be prudent to completely stop the LKS that connected lakhs of Malayalis citing financial irregularities without offering an alternative platform, he said.
C.V.M Vanimel, vice-president of the organisation, suggested that the government put in place a permanent and annual platform for the expatriates where they can come together, discuss ideas, and offer investment proposals for the future development of the State. The event should be held in a simple manner without pomp and show, he said, adding that the KMCC would soon meet Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to discuss their concerns.
