Jaipur man kicks, punches, rips pants of elderly priest over loudspeaker dispute

A dispute over loud noise at a temple in Rajasthan’s Jaipur resorted to violence when a 63-year-old priest was assaulted during evening prayers. CCTV footage from the temple captured the confrontation, showing a young man punching and beating the priest.

The incident took place on the evening of September 25 at a Shiva temple. The priest, identified as Ramkrishna, was performing prayers when an argument broke out over the volume of the sound system being used at the temple.

A young man living opposite to the temple premises had objected to the noise produced by the loudspeaker at the temple. What began as a disagreement soon escalated, with the man attacking the priest.

During the scuffle, the priest was seen pushing the young man. The man then pushed the elderly priest to the ground and began kicking and punching him. The assault continued as people nearby rushed in to intervene, while the priest’s clothes were torn in the altercation.

The incident left the 63-year-old priest shaken, following which he approached the police station and filed a complaint. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media where users were divided over the role of both the parties involved.

Police have detained a father and son in connection with the incident and officials said the matter is under investigation.
