Jan Suraaj leader shot five times in Patna apartment days after son's killing

Jan Suraaj leader and former Patna ward councillor Anil Yadav was shot five times by unidentified assailants in the parking area of his apartment in the Buddha Colony area on Wednesday evening.

Yadav, the husband of Ward 24 councillor Gyanwati Devi, was sitting with his associates in the parking area of Maa Sukhiya Mahal apartment when three men arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire. He sustained four to five bullet injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in Patna. His condition was reported to be critical.

The attack comes days after Yadav's son Aniruddh was also killed in a shooting, with police now examining whether the two incidents could be connected. Reports on Thursday said investigators were looking at possible links between the two attacks, including the possibility of an old enmity.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in and around the apartment complex. Police are examining the footage to identify the attackers and have also begun searches at suspected locations.

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established. Police are investigating all possible angles, including whether there was a previous dispute or enmity.PRASHANT KISHOR VISITS HOSPITAL

After receiving information about the attack, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor reached the hospital and met Yadav. He also met his family members and offered them support. Kishor was present when Yadav was subsequently shifted to another hospital.

Kishor also questioned the law-and-order situation in Bihar, saying the morale of criminals and the incidence of crime had increased. He claimed the government had little control over the situation and pointed to the absence of a full-time DGP in the state.

Referring to Yadav as a four-time elected ward councillor, Kishor said three men were able to enter his home, shoot him and flee from a prime area of Patna. He said the incident should be a matter of concern for the government and prayed for Yadav's recovery.TEJASHWI YADAV TARGETS BIHAR GOVERNMENT

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also reacted to the shooting, alleging that Yadav was attacked by "satta sanrakshit apradhiyon" (criminals allegedly protected by those in power).

Tejashwi said he visited the hospital, met Yadav's family and spoke to doctors about his treatment. He noted that Yadav's wife is the current ward councillor.

Taking aim at the Bihar government, Tejashwi alleged that "jungle raj" had been replaced by what he described as a "government-certified goondaraj". He also accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of criminalising the administrative system.

The allegations made by the opposition leaders are political claims and have not been established by the police.

Yadav is a Jan Suraaj leader and was a former councillor of Patna Municipal Corporation's Ward 24. His wife Gyanwati Devi is the current councillor of the ward.- Ends
