Japan PM Takaichi offers support for Mongolia wildfire - NHKニュース
Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae has pledged support for the recovery of areas damaged by a huge wildfire in Mongolia, during phone talks with Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral.
Japanese telecom giant KDDI has explained that the wildfire that started in a nature reserve in eastern Mongolia on October 8 has been linked to the activities of its local subsidiary. The company has offered an apology.
Takaichi told Uchral on Thursday that the Japanese government takes the scale of the damage seriously, and extended her heartfelt sympathies to the people of Mongolia.
Takaichi said experts in forestry and environmental conservation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, or JICA, were dispatched to Mongolia on Tuesday.
She said, based on their report, the Japanese government will provide a cooperation package for the recovery of the affected areas, including the provision of necessary equipment and human resource development, while maintaining close communication with the government of Mongolia.
Uchral reportedly explained the extent of the damage and expressed deep gratitude for Takaichi's message of sympathy and offer of support.
