Japanese-Korean actress Yuri Nakamura, who starred in the Netflix series “Romantics Anonymous,” has passed away.

Nakamura’s agency, Alpha Agency, announced that the actress passed away on September 1 due to rectal cancer, adding that her funeral was held privately with her family, fellow actors, and agency staff.

According to Mayo Clinic, rectal cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the rectum, the final part of the large intestine before the anus.

Per Alpha Agency, Nakamura had battled cancer 13 years ago but eventually went into remission. She continued working while undergoing regular medical checkups.

Cancer was detected again in January 2025, and Nakamura studied her condition closely, while her doctor encouraged her to continue working.

In August, however, Nakamura developed another bowel obstruction while preparing to return to work. She was subsequently told that she had only a short time to live.

Alpha Agency said Nakamura remained calm and maintained a “beautiful and gentle smile” during her final moments with her family and loved ones.

The agency also expressed gratitude to Nakamura’s fans, colleagues, and staff who supported her throughout her career. It asked the public to refrain from interviewing her family or taking photographs around her home.

Nakamura played psychologist Irene in “Romantics Anonymous,” a Japanese original Netflix series.

International outlets reported that Nakamura was 44 years old.
