Jennifer Lawrence is on Instagram, but she warns trolls could make her quit
Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence has finally joined Instagram, but she has already laid down one very important rule: be nice, or she is gone. The Hunger Games star made her Instagram debut on Thursday, September 10, and wasted no time warning her followers about what could make her abandon the platform.
Lawrence, who appears to be testing the social media waters for now, made it clear that she has little patience for negativity. One nasty comment, she says, and she will quit. Immediately.
In her first video, Lawrence addressed her new followers with the kind of bluntness fans might expect from her. “So, yeah, I’m giving it a shot. And if anyone says anything negative, I will quit. Immediately. No questions asked,” she said.
She then doubled down: “If someone says something mean, I’ll know, and I’ll quit.” So, consider yourselves warned.
Lawrence also shared a post on Instagram Stories to make the same point, although this time she wrapped it in a joke. “Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It’s me. I’m the baby (sic),” she wrote.
The joke may have been light-hearted, but Lawrence's message was clear. She is not about to let the comment section ruin her social media experiment.
And judging by the response so far, there is plenty of interest in seeing what she does next. Within just a day of joining Instagram, the actor had already crossed 4 million followers.
Her handle is @jlaw, after she discovered that @jenniferlawrence had already been claimed. She even acknowledged the social media inconvenience in her bio, which simply reads: “jenniferlawrence was taken.”
Her Instagram aesthetic, meanwhile, is not exactly screaming celebrity perfection. Lawrence's display picture shows her sitting with foils in her hair, holding a drink and staring into the camera with what can only be described as a suspicious look. It is very Jennifer Lawrence - casual, slightly chaotic and seemingly uninterested in looking overly polished. She is currently following 47 accounts, including a rather eclectic mix of Hollywood and pop-culture favourites. Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese and Dakota Johnson make the list, alongside members of the Kardashian-Jenner family. She also follows Timothee Chalamet, Suki Waterhouse and Amy Poehler.
For someone who has spent much of her career being candid in interviews, Lawrence's reluctance towards social media isn't entirely surprising. The actor was most recently seen in the 2025 film Die My Love, co-starring Robert Pattinson. She will next appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and What Happens at Night, keeping her firmly on Hollywood's radar even as she experiments with being more visible online.
Away from work, Lawrence has been married to art gallery director Cooke Maroney since October 2019. The couple have two children, four-year-old Cy and one-year-old Louie.
Lawrence was also recently seen in Paris at the 13th LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, where she had a fun exchange with actor Priyanka Chopra.
