A newly married woman died under suspicious circumstances in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district, following which police arrested her husband and three other members of her in-laws' family in a dowry death case. The four accused have been sent to judicial custody.

The deceased, Pinky Mahto, had married Manish Sharma a few months ago in a love marriage and was living with him at Joy Next Apartment in Adityapur.

Following a written complaint by Pinky's father, Lalit Mahto, police registered a case of dowry death against her husband, father-in-law Shyam Sharma, mother-in-law Poonam Sharma and brother-in-law Satish Sharma. All four were arrested.FAMILY ALLEGES DOWRY HARASSMENT

Pinky's father accused her in-laws of repeatedly harassing his daughter over dowry and alleged that she was killed.

Her family claimed that Pinky was pregnant and was brutally assaulted on the day of the incident. According to her relatives, she was first taken to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur and later shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, where she died during treatment.

The family also alleged that they were not informed about the incident in time. They further claimed that a story about Pinky jumping from the apartment's terrace was fabricated to make her death appear to be a suicide.

These allegations have not been independently verified.POLICE PROBE UNDERWAY

After learning about Pinky's death, her relatives brought her body to the apartment and staged a protest.

Seraikela Superintendent of Police Manoj Swargiary said a case had been registered on the basis of the family's complaint and the initial investigation. The four named accused were subsequently arrested.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment, the post-mortem report and other evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding Pinky's death.

The exact circumstances of her death will be established after the investigation progresses.- EndsWith inputs from Manish Kumar Lal Das
