Jordan Hermann credits ‘lucky charm’ girlfriend after record-equalling ODI debut - IOL

Proteas batting star Jordan Hermann believes his girlfriend, Inge Krog, brought him luck as he made a dream start to his international career.

Hermann smashed 150 on his Proteas ODI debut against Namibia in Windhoek on Wednesday, helping South Africa to a 99-run victory.

The stylish left-hander said Krog’s presence in the stands may have played a part in his remarkable innings.

“My girlfriend was also here. I believe she’s a bit of a good luck charm,” Hermann said after the match.

Krog’s luck appeared to kick in early. Hermann was caught short of his ground by a direct hit when he had scored just 30, but was given not out by the on-field umpires.

With no DRS available in Windhoek, the decision stood.

Hermann made the most of the reprieve, progressing from a half-century to a century and then 150 off 126 balls, including 17 fours and three sixes.

He shared a 190-run second-wicket partnership with Tony de Zorzi, who made 72.

Hermann said the experience of batting alongside De Zorzi helped South Africa through a tricky period in the innings.

The 348/6 total proved too much for Namibia, who were set a revised DLS target of 262 and finished on 162/8.

Hermann was named Player of the Match.

His 150 also saw him join Proteas teammate Matthew Breetzke as the only two players in men’s ODI history to score 150 on debut.

Hermann has played alongside Breetzke for the Warriors and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and said he was pleased to share the record with his teammate.

The second ODI will be played in Windhoek on Friday.
