Josh Heupel recaps Tennessee's win at Georgia Tech - Vols Wire
No. 18 Tennessee (2-0) won its first road game during the 2026 football season. The Vols defeated Georgia Tech (0-2), 45-24, in Week 2 at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sixth-year head coach Josh Heupel discussed Tennessee's season-opening win after the game.
"End of the day, you can look around the country and understand that every week's its own entity, its own week," Heupel said. "Proud of our team to come here get a win, play the way that we needed to, ultimately to end up on the right side of the scoreboard.
"You know, obviously, there's bunch of things to clean up, special teams early. Offensively, some of the penalties that changed the way the game's played. You know, defensively, a lot of really solid things and then second half not up to the standard, and certainly the fourth quarter penalties just not very good, so that's multiple phases of the game. Disappointed in that, but I've also learned and understand that you better appreciate every win too."
Against Georgia Tech, the Vols totaled 66 plays and 447 yards (299 rushing, 148 passing), while committing 14 penalties for 142 yards. Tennessee allowed 356 yards (221 passing, 135 rushing).
