Micah Reddy went missing on Saturday and it later emerged that he was being held in custody under unclear circumstances.
The Djiboutian government said he was arrested while on assignment after allegedly failing to obtain the necessary media accreditation.
Reddy’s family has confirmed he was released unharmed on Monday and was on his way back to South Africa.
