Kacha area peace - The Express Tribune
A few days ago, the Government of Sindh organised “Peace Festival” in the kacha area of Ghotki district. Several prominent public figures attended the event, including the Home Minister, the Inspector General of Sindh Police, politicians and members of civil society. The primary objective of the event was to assure the people of the kacha region, as well as the wider population of Sindh, that the areas that remained a no-go zone and declared a red zone for nearly two decades have now been restored for public access. Following multiple security operations against criminal gangs and bandits, the situation has reportedly improved significantly. People can now travel through the area safely, even after midnight, reflecting a considerable improvement in law and order. However, restoring peace is only the first step towards lasting development. The government must now focus on providing essential facilities, including schools, hospitals and proper roads, to the people of the kacha region. These are fundamental necessities and the basic rights of every citizen. Furthermore, public awareness programmes and community discussion sessions should be organised to encourage local residents, particularly disadvantaged communities, to recognise their abilities and participate actively in the region’s development. The initiative taken by the Government of Sindh deserves appreciation. Nevertheless, lasting peace can only be achieved when security is accompanied by education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic opportunities. The people of the kacha region not only deserve a peaceful environment but also a better future. Mohsin Larik Ubauro
