Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy has urged the Union and State governments to come to the aid of farmers whose banana plantations were damaged by strong winds in his constituency.

The Pulivendula Assembly constituency in Kadapa district is known for extensive banana cultivation. Several banana trees were uprooted and many others tilted due to the heavy winds that lashed the district recently.

Mr. Avinash Reddy visited Kuppalapalli, Tallapalli and Velamavaripalli villages in Vempalle mandal on Friday and assessed the crop damage. He also consoled the affected farmers.

Responding to the farmers’ appeal for relief, Mr. Avinash Reddy urged the governments to take a lenient view of the situation and provide compensation. “The farmers have lost a fortune as the crop was almost ready for harvest when the damage occurred,” he said, seeking compensation of ₹50,000 an acre for the damaged banana crop.
