Kanpur delivery man on bike falls into open sewer pit, deadly fall caught on camera

A delivery agent in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur had a terrifying fall after his bike plunged into an open sewer pit on a dark stretch of road, with the entire accident caught on CCTV. He, however, survived the fall, with his helmet protecting him from a potentially serious injury.

The incident took place late Tuesday night, where the agent was riding towards the area to deliver an order. With little visibility on the road, he failed to notice the large pit and fell into it along with his motorcycle.

The CCTV footage from the area showed the delivery agent travelling along the road before suddenly disappearing into the open pit. The fall prompted nearby residents to rush towards the spot after hearing his screams.

The people then worked together to pull the man and his bike out of the pit before taking him to a private hospital for treatment. He received first aid there, following which his family took him to another hospital for further treatment.

Residents said the pit had been lying open for around 15 days after a sewer line was damaged at the spot. They added that Municipal Corporation workers had repaired the sewer line, but the road was not properly restored afterwards, leaving a large opening on the road.

In addition to that, the lack of street lighting in the area made the danger even harder to spot at night. Local residents claimed that neither proper barricading nor warning signs had been installed around the pit despite the road continuing to be used.
