Karachi to get 'Grand Khidmat Markaz' for passports, CNICs among other services

Citizens in Karachi will be able to obtain passports, national identity cards, arms licences and various no-objection certificates under one roof at a new public service centre planned by the federal government, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Tuesday. Naqvi announced the proposed “Grand Khidmat Markaz” during a visit to the Ministry of Interior’s office on II Chundrigar Road in Karachi, according to a spokesperson for the interior ministry. He directed officials to prepare and submit a master plan for the centre within 10 days, ensuring that all necessary requirements were incorporated into the design. The minister further directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to facilitate its establishment. During the visit, the minister was briefed on the specifications and operational capabilities of the newly imported vehicles. Naqvi said the arrival of the new vehicles would strengthen rescue and firefighting services in the capital, describing the addition as a major expansion of the city’s emergency response fleet since 2009. According to the ministry, the fleet includes four fire aerial trucks, six fire towers and five fire tenders, along with other rescue vehicles.
