Karnataka CM blames previous BJP governments for Finance Department advisory

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has attributed the recent advisory issued by the Finance Department to alleged financial mismanagement of the previous BJP governments.
Responding to queries from reporters at the KHB helipad at Hanur in Chamarajanagar district on Wednesday, Mr. Shivakumar said several projects had been taken up without adequate budgetary allocations during the tenure of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.
“It is because of such mismanagement by the previous BJP governments that officials of the Finance Department have written to us,” he said.
The reporters referred to the contractors’ complaint that payments exceeding ₹30,000 crore were yet to be released by the government.
Mr. Shivakumar said works awarded during Mr. Yediyurappa’s tenure were nearing completion and that the bills had to be cleared. “The contractors have to survive. I will look into the matter shortly,” he said.
Asked about the allegation by the president of the State Contractors’ Association that contractors were still being asked to pay percentage commissions, the Chief Minister said an inquiry would be ordered if the association submitted an affidavit in this regard.
On the reported demand for caste certificates from beneficiaries during the re-verification of beneficiaries under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, Mr. Shivakumar said the government had prepared a new application to prevent people from other States from availing themselves of the scheme in Karnataka.
