The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for four districts in southern Keralam warning of isolated heavy rains.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam were put on yellow alert, where rain in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is likely in 24 hours.

According to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Telangana and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh at 4.5 km above mean sea level. Further, a trough in easterlies now runs from the Southeast Arabian Sea adjoining Keralam to South Interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Under the influence of the system, rain is expected to continue for a couple of days.
