KILLINGS CONTINUE: Cops probe possible links after 12th woman killed in Ekurhuleni area - IOL

PROBE: A 23-year-old woman was shot dead in an apparent robbery in Tembisa, becoming the 12th woman killed in Ekurhuleni, police say.

A TWELFTH woman has been murdered in a horrifying recent spate of killings in the Ekurhuleni area of Gauteng.  

​A 23-year-old woman was shot and killed in an apparent robbery in Tembisa on Monday morning.

​Gauteng police said the woman was reportedly on her way to work when she was shot and her belongings taken.

​Police said they have identified the woman, but her next of kin has not been formally informed.

​This is the 12th woman whose body has been found in the Ekurhuleni area.

​However, police said preliminary investigations have not established any links between this incident and the recent case of bodies found.

​The latest Gender-Based Violence incident comes hot on the heels of reports that the bodies of two more women were discovered on Saturday and Sunday of the Heritage Day weekend.  

​According to reports, a woman was found semi-naked and appeared to have been strangled near a railway line in Springs, Ekurhuleni, on Sunday, 27 September 2026.

​SAPS Springs responded to a crime scene where a body was discovered in an open veld near Rhokana Road by a private security company on patrol.

​On Saturday, 26 September 2026, a woman's body was found at Mooifontein Cemetery in the Vusimusi Section, in Tembisa.

The deceased has been identified as Ntombifuthu Nxumalo. Police said she was found naked and had sustained serious head injuries.

​Stones were reportedly found around her body, raising the possibility that she may have been stoned. Police said no visible stab wounds were observed at the scene.

​Gauteng police have since arrested a suspect in connection with the murder.

​The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended Gauteng police for the swift apprehension of a suspect linked to the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa on Saturday morning.

​Dimpane said: “I commend this multidisciplinary team for their swift response, coordination and determination, which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect on the same day.

​“This is the kind of policing we expect from our members. We will continue to pursue perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence and femicide and ensure that they face the full might of the law.”
