Kimberley police have opened an inquest after a woman’s body was discovered in a shallow grave inside a shack on Wednesday.

Police said the 31-year-old was allegedly last seen in July, but her family only reported her missing in September.

It is not clear whether she lived in the shack where her body was found.

Police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers said a family member reportedly went to the shack on Tuesday looking for the deceased, but it was locked.

"On Wednesday, 30 September 2026, she returned to the shack with a community member and opened the door to the dwelling. They noticed that the ground was loose and discovered the shallow grave.   No arrest has been made at this stage."
