King Charles friends have finally spoken out after Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer made bombshell claims in his upcoming book.

King Charles friends have finally spoken out after Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer made bombshell claims in his upcoming book.

Charles Spencer has alleged in a soon-to-be-published memoir that the then-Prince Charles told him "rest assured, we'll forget her soon enough."

The reported comments were made in an argument over whether Diana and Charles children, Prince William and Harry, should walk behind her coffin during her funeral — something Spencer objected to, the report said.

King Charles took the unusual step on Wednesday of responding to criticism by the brother of his late first wife Diana, saying via a spokesperson that grief could impact reason, judgment and memory.

Now, the Daily Mail has quoted the friends of King Charles insisting that it is 'just not in the King's nature' and that he would not have used 'this kind of language' about Diana.

The source close to the King said the comment he is alleged to have made about Diana was 'just not in his nature and it certainly wasn't in his nature at that time, when he was a man absolutely grief-stricken'.

The close confidant added that the then Prince of Wales was the person who overruled Royal protocol to insist that Diana should have a full state-style ceremonial funeral.

On September 6, 1997, nearly a week after Princess Diana's death, Earl Spencer delivered a defiant eulogy at her funeral that was later named one of the greatest speeches of the 20th century.
