Kitty Duterte calls for accountability, thanks supporters amid VP Sara's legal battles - GMA Network
Following the arrest warrant issued against her sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte on Wednesday thanked their family’s supporters and called for accountability.
“Managot ang dapat managot,” Kitty Duterte said. (Those who are accountable should be held accountable.)
A video from GMA News’ Vonne Aquino showed Kitty saying the phrase during a general assembly for the Inday Sara Movement Philippines at the Club Filipino in San Juan City.
The phrase has been used across the political spectrum, with both administration allies and critics using it.
“I would like to thank everyone gathered here today for the Inday Sara Na Movement Philippines. I would also like to thank everyone for the unwavering and continuous love and support,” Kitty said in a video message.
“The country needs it now more than ever. Do not let the sacrifices and the hardships of our fellow men be in vain. Managot ang dapat managot. Walang iwanan. Babalik tayo sa 2028, (Those who accountable must be held accountable. No one will be left behind. We will return in 2028).
Sara Duterte has already announced her intention to run in the 2028 presidential elections, with many surveys naming her as the frontrunner.
However, the Vice President is facing both an impeachment case at the Senate and a grave threats case before the Quezon City court.
The Quezon City Regional Trial Court has already issued an arrest warrant against Duterte over the threats she made against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Araneta-Marcos and former House speaker Martin Romualdez. She posted bail for the charges on Saturday.
It is not just Sara facing legal issues. Her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte is currently detained in the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands awaiting trial for crimes against humanity in relation to his bloody drug war that saw at least 6,000 people dead, with human rights groups saying that the number could be as high as 30,000.
In a report from DZBB’s Sam Nielsen, ISMP founder Daniel Nobieza said that they will accompany the Vice President when she attends her arraignment at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Friday.
“Siguro more than 300, approximate po, kasi yung iba po kasi hindi nakadalo ngayon, sa Friday po pupunta para po makita po ni VP na solido pa rin po ang suporta ng kanyang mga volunteers at followers,” Nobieza said.
(Maybe more than 300, it is approximate, because some of us were not able to go today, so they will go on Friday so that the VP could see that the support of her volunteers and followers is still solid.)
Nobieza said that they have accepted that more unexpected things could happen, such as new cases being lodged against Duterte. However, they have already accepted this fact especially with the 2028 elections approaching.
Nobieza said that they are in the process of obtaining a rally permit. —RF, GMA News
