Some journeys are planned, others simply become a part of your life before you realise just how long they have been around. For Karan Johar, Koffee With Karan is one of those journeys. After more than two decades, the filmmaker-host has announced that the celebrity chat show will return for one final season, with Season 9 premiering on JioHotstar on October 14.

And this time, there really is only one cup left.

In the announcement promo, Johar looks back at everything Koffee With Karan has been over the years: unpredictable, irreverent, occasionally chaotic and almost always capable of making people talk. At one point, he acknowledges the controversies surrounding him because of what he or one of the guests said on the show.

"I nearly put an end to the careers of national icons. I'm living with the word 'nepotism' even today. 'Conjecture' became a kind of a national word. So much happened," he says.

It was the show where celebrities came to spill a little tea, sometimes said a little too much, and occasionally left viewers wondering if a single rapid-fire answer had just created a problem for someone's career.

For more than two decades, Koffee With Karan has flirted with that fine line between harmless celebrity banter and conversations that could have real consequences. There were answers that became headlines, revelations that fuelled weeks of gossip, friendships and rivalries that became talking points, and moments that were dissected long after the episode ended. At times, the show even became part of the conversation around whether one careless answer could nearly derail a celebrity's carefully built image or career.

"There are some journeys you don't plan to end, you simply know, somewhere deep within you, when it is time to let them go," Johar says in the promo. Looking back, he describes the show as a part of his life that gave him "friendships, memories, moments of complete madness, a lot of love and, yes, its fair share of controversy!"

It is hard to think of Bollywood's celebrity culture over the last 20-odd years without thinking of that famous couch. Since the show first arrived in 2004, stars have walked in with their friendships, rivalries, romances and carefully guarded secrets, only to leave with a few more headlines attached to their names.

In the same promo, KJo highlights how the show saw a mix of celebs, emotions and relationships. Some guests came as friends and left as family. Some found love. Some became ex-lovers. Some eventually got married. And plenty of conversations found a second life as memes, debates, gossip and pop-culture trivia.

Then there were the rapid-fire rounds, the coffee hampers, the impossible questions and the answers that seemed to take on a life of their own once the episode ended. Koffee With Karan was never just about two celebrities sitting across from Johar with a cup of coffee between them. At its peak, it became a weekly peek into Bollywood's inner circle, where a seemingly harmless question could turn into the next day's biggest talking point.

Johar acknowledges that history in the promo too, speaking about the "controversy" and "complete madness" that came with the show, but also returning to the one thing that kept it going: the audience.

"They have laughed with us, debated us, trolled us, celebrated us and, most importantly, kept coming back for another cup," he says.

"Saying goodbye is emotional, but it also feels right," Johar says in the promo. "This final season is my way of raising the mug one last time with gratitude, with love and with everyone who has made Koffee With Karan what it is," he adds.

The final season will arrive on October 14, bringing back the couch, the coffee and, presumably, a few more conversations that could have Bollywood talking all over again.

Because if there is one thing Koffee With Karan has taught us over the years, it is that sometimes all it takes is one question, two celebrities and a cup of coffee to create a moment that refuses to stay on the couch. "So, come have one last cup of Koffee with me," Johar says. It is indeed "one last time."- EndsRead more | Samay Raina's India's Got Latent 2 scripted? Suhani Shah's magic act sparks claims
