KM-1 capture operation nears final stage; Kumki elephants reach Aralam

The operation to tranqualise and capture KM-1, the wild elephant that has been causing fear in human settlements of Aralam, has entered its final stage with the construction of a kraal at Muthanga in Wayanad completed and two kumki elephants reaching Aralam.

The kumki elephants, Vikram and Bharat, are from the Muthanga camp.

According to the Forest department, the rapid response team and the special tracking team are maintaining close surveillance to locate KM-1. Once the elephant is located in terrain suitable for the operation, an expert team will initiate the chemical immobilisation procedures.

The operation involves tranquilising the elephant and safely moving it to the kraal.
