KMJS clarifies report on Paete woodcarver Pio Fadul, apologizes to family and residents - GMA Network
Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) has issued a clarification and apology following concerns raised over its "Gabi ng Lagim" episode featuring the woodcarvings of Paete artist Pio Fadul.
In a statement, the program said it respects Fadul's craftsmanship and the artistry of Paete's woodcarvers, emphasizing that it reached out to the artist and his family to hear their side after learning about experiences allegedly associated with one of his creations.
The segment, titled "Ukit," featured Fadul's works and his skills as a sculptor. It also included his clarification that his creations were not inhabited by evil entities.
KMJS likewise interviewed the Paete Historical and Cultural Heritage Foundation Inc., which stressed that woodcarving is an important part of the town's livelihood and faith and should not be feared.
The program clarified that its report focused on experiences linked to one particular woodcarving and should not be taken as a basis for associating other works by Fadul or Paete woodcarving in general with evil entities.
"Nauunawaan namin na maaaring makaapekto ang ulat sa industriya ng pag-uukit sa Paete, at hindi namin layuning makasira sa tiwala sa kanilang sining at kabuhayan. Nakipag-ugnayan na rin kami sa pamilya Fadul upang talakayin ang kanilang mga alalahanin, at humihingi kami ng paumanhin sa kanila at sa mga taga-Paete sa pagkabahala na naidulot ng ulat. Nirerespeto at pinahahalagahan namin ang kanilang reputasyon, kabuhayan, at pamanang kultural," the statement read.
KMJS also confirmed that it had reached out to the Fadul family to discuss their concerns and apologized to them and the people of Paete for the worry caused by the report.
The program reiterated its respect for the reputation, livelihood, and cultural heritage of the artist, his family, and the Paete community.
