Kyle Shanahan details knee injury for 10-time Pro Bowler - Niners Wire
There was a scary moment for the San Francisco 49ers and fullback Kyle Juszczyk right when their offense got rolling Sunday vs. the Denver Broncos.
Brock Purdy rolled to his left and found Juszczyk all alone down the left sideline for a 16-yard completion. Broncos CB Jahdae Barron who tackled Juszczyk hit the fullback in the knees and caused Juszczyk's knee to hyperextend. Trainers tended to the 10-time Pro Bowler and needed to help him as he gingerly walked off the field. He was ruled out a short while later.
While it wasn't necessarily good news, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after Sunday's game that Juszczyk appears to have avoided a catastrophic injury.
βJuice, we don't know for sure," Shanahan said. "Theyβre thinking it was probably a knee sprain. His ACL and stuff looked intact, but to find out for sure we'll have to find out tomorrow."
Shanahan will speak with reporters Monday and have more information on what additional tests showed on the fullback's knee.
Ideally the 10-time Pro Bowler won't miss time, but the 49ers may have to figure out life without him for some period. Tight end Brayden Willis was next up as Juszczyk's replacement and it remains to be seen how long he'll need to play that role.
Juszczyk this season is playing 50 percent of the offensive snaps. He has three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.
