KZN environmental activist Desmond D’Sa, son and relative killed in crash - IOL
Desmond D’Sa, the founder of the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA), his son Rodney D’Sa, and his sister-in-law died in a car crash early this morning.
“The three were travelling from Desmond’s home in Umzinto when they crashed at around 6am. Desmond was on his way to the SDCEA office this morning when the accident happened,” said Bongani Mthembu from SDCEA.
He said D’Sa moved from his home in Wentworth to live in Umzinto after his leg was amputated.
“We are shocked and cannot explain the grief we feel, losing the head and founder of our organisation. May he rest in peace,” said Mthembu, who is the organisation's air quality and health officer.
D’Sa was well known for his fearless fight against environmental issues, taking on industry giants who broke environmental laws, putting the lives of residents at risk.
