Latest on New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart's knee injury - Giants Wire

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury but received an encouraging assessment afterward from general manager Joe Schoen.

Dart was hurt on the opening series at SoFi Stadium. On third-and-8, Rams linebacker Byron Young hit the second-year quarterback from his right side and drove him into linebacker Josaiah Stewart. Dart landed hard, immediately grabbed his knee, and stayed down as trainers evaluated him.

He eventually walked off under his own power with a limp and was led toward the locker room.

The Giants initially listed Dart as questionable to return, but then announced early in the third quarter that he would not come back. Dart underwent X-rays at the stadium and later appeared on the sideline in street clothes.

Schoen told ESPN’s Laura Rutledge, “He’s going to be OK.”

Dart tried to re-enter the game in the first half, but the Giants would not allow it. He had completed three of five passes for 20 yards before the injury. Jameis Winston replaced him.

ESPN's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo report that Dart suffered a sprained MCL and will miss some time, but that he avoided a season-ending injury.

"We'll know more [Tuesday]," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters. "[A sprained MCL] is in the neighborhood of it. We'll get an MRI [Tuesday] and have a real good feel for it."

Dart entered the game coming off one of the strongest performances of his young career. In last week’s 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, he completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 54 rushing yards. That victory was the Giants’ first under head coach John Harbaugh.
