The Tamil Nadu government has deferred the launch of the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, which was originally scheduled to be launched on September 17, the birth anniversary of social reformer Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, to September 22, in view of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s official overseas visit to London.

In a letter to all district Collectors, Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Secretary M. Pallavi Baldev said the Chief Minister will launch the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme to students of Classes VI to VIII in Chennai on September 22.

On the same day, the scheme will be rolled out in all districts except Chengalpattu and Tiruppur, where the Model Code of Conduct is in force in view of the ensuing bypolls to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly segments.

Mr. Vijay, who is on his first official overseas trip to London as Chief Minister, will return to Chennai on September 17. Similarly, the State Government had already decided to defer the launch of Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam, a scheme to provide one-gram gold rings to newborns in government hospitals in the State. This scheme was originally scheduled to be launched on September 15, the birth anniversary of Dravidian stalwart and former Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai, and was subsequently deferred due to Mr. Vijay’s overseas trip.
