‘Leave no stone unturned’: Ramaphosa reacts to six women found dead in and around Kempton Park - IOL

South Africa - Johannesburg - 15 September 2026 - Members of the South African Police Service(SAPS) are investigating a crime scene where a woman's body was discovered this morning in Kwa-Thema. This brings the total of six bodies of women discovered in Ekurhuleni between July 15, 2026 and September 14, 2026.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered police to leave no stone unturned in the investigation into the deaths of at least six women whose bodies have been discovered on the East Rand in Gauteng.

The killings, spanning areas around Kempton Park, Springs, and Olifantsfontein, have triggered an urgent response from the government, with several of the victims reportedly found to have been sexually assaulted.

The latest discovery was made on Tuesday in Kwa-Thema, Springs, adding to a string of cases now being investigated by police.

Four women had previously been found dead over two months in the Kempton Park area, while another body was discovered in Olifantsfontein on Monday.

Ramaphosa said the deaths had left families and communities devastated and heightened fears, particularly among women.

“I speak for all of us as I extend my deepest condolences to all families and communities affected by the killing of women recently found in and around Kempton Park,” he said.

“These incidents are causing fear and uncertainty in our communities, and especially among women.”

The President said he had spoken to the Police Minister and the Acting National Police Commissioner, who briefed him on the investigations.

He directed law enforcement agencies to prioritise the cases and urgently establish what happened.

“I have directed that these cases be prioritised and that no stone be left unturned in bringing those responsible to justice,” Ramaphosa said.

He called for cooperation between police and the public, stressing that information from communities could prove crucial in stopping further attacks and identifying those responsible.

The President also reaffirmed the government’s responsibility to protect women and girls, upholding their safety and dignity.

“Our hearts go out to all the families affected by the terrible events in the Kempton Park area,” he said.
