LIVE: ICC third status conference for ex-president Rodrigo Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — The International Criminal Court is holding the third status conference in the crimes against humanity case of former President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, September 16.

Duterte is attending the hearing for the first time after waiving his appearance during the previous two status conferences.

The trial chamber is expected to discuss the prosecution's case, including its list of witnesses, the number of hours to be allotted to the prosecution, its list of evidence, disclosure to the defense and additional incidents.

The chamber will also discuss the trial schedule from November 30 until the Spring Recess in 2027, as well as the Registry's proposal to hold blocks of hearings with breaks and sitting hours based on experts' recommendations.

The case stems from the ICC's investigation into alleged crimes against humanity linked to killings during Duterte's anti-drug campaign. Prosecutors have charged him with three counts of crimes against humanity involving at least 76 alleged murders between 2013 and 2018.

Duterte was arrested in Manila in March 2025 and flown to the Netherlands, where he remains detained at the ICC Detention Centre in Scheveningen.
