Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Head of Internal Affairs, Superintendent Elmarie de Beer, is testifying at the Madlanga Commission on claims of bribery and corruption involving officers, including claims linked to Katiso βKTβ Molefe.
Advocates Thabang Pooe and Lee Segeels-Ncubu are the evidence leaders.Β
The commission is examining allegations involving JMPD officers, including suspected traffic bribery, a multimillion-rand gemstone theft, and claims that a murder suspect with suspected cartel links was protected.
K9 officer Johannes Makgatle has also been implicated in evidence before the commission.
He was accused of assisting Katiso βKTβ Molefe, who has been linked in testimony to the alleged Big 5 drug cartel.
Evidence alleged Makgatle took sick leave but was at Molefeβs home during an arrest operation.
He was further accused of using a JMPD vehicle without authorisation while off duty and attempting to interfere with investigators.
The JMPD subsequently moved to charge him.
Another case involved the alleged theft of gemstones worth R14.9 million from a Killarney flat in 2023.
