Live, October 1: Archers aim to continue golden run, IND vs PAK in volleyball

Chikhitha Taniparthi will be entering the archery field once again and aim for gold once again. She won gold in the women's team and mixed team events and has been in fine form in Nagoya. She will be in action in the women's compound individual quarterfinals against Nurisa Dian Ashrifah of Indonesia.

If she can win another gold, she will equal the record of three gold medals by Jyothi Surekha Vennam last time around in Hangzhou.

Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar, Pranavi Sharath Urs have kicked off the action for the Indian contingent early on Thursday, October 1 in the women's individual strokeplay and Women's team round 2. Currently, Pranavi is in second spot while Diksha and Aditi are tied at 22.

Here's a look at India's schedule for the day and medal events.

India are set for another hectic day at the Asian Games, with a number of major events lined up across the schedule.

The biggest talking point will be the India-Pakistan double-header. The men’s volleyball team will first face Pakistan in a quarterfinal, before the hockey teams renew their rivalry in a semifinal clash later in the day. Both contests carry significant stakes, with a place in the next round on the line.

Cricket will also command plenty of attention as India take on Sri Lanka in the men’s semifinal. The winner will move into the gold medal match, adding another major medal opportunity for the Indian contingent.

There is already a guaranteed medal in both team squash events, but India’s men’s and women’s teams will be aiming to go one step further and secure their places in the finals.

Elsewhere, Indian athletes will be involved in medal battles and qualification rounds across several disciplines. Anish will compete in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol final, while Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru begins his campaign in the men’s compound individual event.

Wrestling will also be closely followed, with Sumit, Aman, Nitesh and Mansi all scheduled to take to the mat for important bouts.

In sport climbing, Deepu Mallesh returns to competition in the men’s speed event, while India will also have athletes in action across rugby, cycling and other disciplines.

With two high-profile India-Pakistan clashes, a crucial cricket semifinal and medal opportunities spread across multiple sports, the Indian contingent faces another day packed with action at the Asian Games.
