Live: Union Ministers, CMs to travel together in a single bus to BRICS summit venue
Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu arrived in Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit. Nigeria holds BRICS Partner Country status along with Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for strengthening the foundation, momentum and impact of greater BRICS cooperation and delivering more practical benefits to people, China Daily reported. It said China has advocated enhancing BRICS cooperation and delivering tangible results through concrete action. The report highlighted how BRICS cooperation is connecting people, markets and opportunities while creating new pathways for shared development.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal warmly welcomed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) President Zou Jiayi to the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. He said the visit will strengthen partnerships to advance sustainable development and expand opportunities for emerging economies.
Congress leader Salman Khurshid said Russia has been a “time-tested friend” of India and its presence at the BRICS Summit should not be viewed only in terms of low-cost fuel. He said India has received the right response from Russia and Ukraine regarding efforts to end the conflict, while suggesting that India could have done more on the issue. Khurshid also referred to the conflict in West Asia.
Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of various states will travel together in a single bus for the BRICS Summit. The leaders will assemble at Parliament before proceeding to the summit venue at Bharat Mandapam. According to ANI, the move has been planned to facilitate smoother traffic movement and minimise inconvenience to the public.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is heading to New Delhi for this year’s BRICS gathering, just over a week after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, the Chinese media reported.
Philippines Foreign Secretary Theresa P. Lazaro arrived at Delhi airport ahead of the BRICS Summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said world leaders will gather in the coming days for the BRICS Summit. He expressed confidence that the summit will see positive and meaningful discussions on various issues with the welfare of the world in mind.
Vasudev Ravi, OSD, PR, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said around 1,200-1,300 journalists are expected at the International Media Centre at the Bharat Mandapam Complex during the BRICS Summit. He said a large number of journalists from BRICS member countries as well as partner and invitee countries are expected to attend.
Delhi is likely to witness rain as India hosts the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain on Friday and generally cloudy conditions with moderate rain on Saturday, while light rain is likely again on Sunday. Temperatures remained above normal on Thursday. Skymet’s Mahesh Palawat said westerly winds are likely to turn easterly on Friday, while a low-pressure area over southern Odisha is expected to move towards central Madhya Pradesh, bringing rainfall activity over the region.
Special Commissioner of Police (Security) Manish Agarwal said the Delhi Police is maintaining high vigilance ahead of the BRICS Summit, with a focus on preventing incidents that could cause international embarrassment to the host country. He said authorities are closely monitoring social media activity, potential snap demonstrations and similar incidents, while contingency plans have been rehearsed to deal with any eventuality.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Delhi ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026. During his visit, Putin will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and have a series of bilateral meetings.
