Louisiana single-game passing touchdown record broken by surprising QB - USA Today

A new record has been set in Louisiana when it comes to high school passing touchdowns in a game and that new wasn't set by some longtime starter or an experienced senior.

According to a report from NOLA.com, Metairie Park Country Day (LA) sophomore quarterback Jack Grace threw for 542 yards and nine touchdowns as the Cajuns beat Willow (LA) 70-35. Grace is in his first year as a starter for the program and this was just his second game starting.

With the nine touchdown passes, he broke the record of eight that was once held between Evangel Christian Academy quarterbacks Dez Duron (2005-2008) and current LSU four-star commit Peyton Houston.

Grace started off on a tear, throwing four touchdown passes in the first quarter alone and by halftime, he had six. He broke the record with 3:15 remaining in the game on a 29-yard touchdown strike to Colin Snyder.

In the win, Grace connected with five different receivers for touchdowns.

“We came off a tough loss last week, so that kind of fueled us this week,” Grace is quoted in the report. “We had a great week of practice. We came out firing. I didn’t know it was a state record until I came off (the field) after the last touchdown.”

Country Day entered this game 0-1 on the year following a 43-34 loss to South Terrebonne (LA). In that loss, Grace was 15-of-31 passing for 300 yards and two touchdowns but did have three interceptions.

Following his record-breaking performance, Grace and the Cajuns offense will look to keep the momentum going next as they travel to Sacred Heart (LA).
