Elephant develops swelling on right hind thigh, tests underway to determine cause
The health condition of Madhubala, an elephant named after popular Bollywood star Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi, known professionally as Madhubala, is satisfactory and she is living her routine life and taking food normally, Amjad Zaidi, Director of Safari Park, said on Tuesday. He said Madhubala had developed swelling on her right hind thigh, which officials believed could have resulted from a fight with her companion, Malika. However, the exact cause would be determined after X-ray, blood and urine tests. According to Zaidi, Madhubala had recovered considerably after undergoing 18 months of treatment for tuberculosis and had also recovered from a foot infection. She is currently eating normally, he added. The Safari Park administration said it remained in contact with Sri Lankan wildlife health specialist Dr Buddhika Bhandara regarding Madhubala's condition and was providing medical treatment according to his advice.
