I. Paranthamen, the DMK candidate for the byelection to the Madurantakam Assembly constituency, on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) filed his nomination with the Revenue Divisional Officer, Madurantakam, who is also the Returning Officer.

He was accompanied by former Minister T.M. Anbarasan and other DMK functionaries. Speaking to reporters after filing his papers, Mr. Paranthamen expressed the hope that the DMK would emerge victorious in the multi-cornered contest.

The DMK has announced that its ‘Mupperum Vizha’, which was to have been held on Tuesday evening at the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam, has been postponed because party president M.K. Stalin is suffering from fever. DMK general secretary Duraimurugan said in a statement that the party would announce a fresh date for the event.
