The quake measured a preliminary magnitude 6.5, the USGS said, with the epicenter located about 100 miles west of Nikolski on Umnak Island.
It was not immediately clear whether the quake caused any injuries or damage. There is no immediate threat of a tsunami, per the National Tsunami Warning Center.
