Magsayo outpointed by Cortes

MANILA, Philippines -- Mark Magsayo's five-match win streak has come to an end.

The Filipino boxer absorbed a unanimous-decision loss in his 10-round featherweight clash with Andres Cortes of the United States at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Sunday morning (Manila time). 

All three judges scored the bout 97-93 in favor of the American. 

While Magsayo started the match aggressively, he was outboxed by Cortes early on, landing sharp shots and counters. 

But the American sent the Filipino to the canvas in the third and fourth rounds -- dubious knockdowns that were later reversed.

While Magsayo pushed the attack in the latter rounds, Cortes did not allow his opponent to close the gap. 

Magsayo dropped to a 29-3 (win-loss) record, while Cortes remained unscathed through 26 matches.
