The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Maharashtra carried out inspections across the State between October 28 and 31. The department took away 19 licences. It confiscated items weighing 3,53,000 kg. The items held a value of ₹9.01 crore. The drive resulted in 13 FIRs and 16 arrests. FDA Commissioner Tukaram Munde headed the department during this period.
The FDA seized 2,279.7 litres of ghee worth ₹20.20 lakh from Divya Mahavitarak, a Patanjali distributor, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Officials suspect the stock may have been misbranded or adulterated.
The department took 1,44,218kg of oil from Avenue Supermarts in Bhiwandi. It also took 20,560kg of items from Amin Traders in Satara.
The department closed 7 establishments and took 6 vehicles. The actions occurred due to a lack of hygiene and violations of rules regarding safety. These establishments include units that make namkeen, sweets, and spices. These units operate in Mumbai, Amravati, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
