A 27-year-old man, who was out on bail after being arrested for allegedly murdering his pregnant wife a year earlier, was ambushed and stabbed to death with a coconut-shelling knife by a gang in Nizamabad on Thursday evening. Police suspect the attack to be a pre-planned revenge killing.

The victim, Chittari Haribabu, was attacked at around 5 p.m. at Raja Rajendra crossroad. An officer from the Nizamabad police said that the assailants are yet to be identified and investingation is on to ascertain whether the murder was linked to the death of his wife Vaishnavi, a YouTuber, for which he had earlier been arrested.

Haribabu had been staying with his mother at Indrapur, under the limits of Nizamabad’s V Town Police Station, for the past few days. The two were making a living by selling maize bags at the crossroad.

On Thursday evening, Haribabu was went to a nearby shop for water when he was attacked. The assailants arrived in a car. “There were about three people in the car and one of them got down, approached Haribabu and attacked him with a coconut-shelling knife,” informed the officer.

The victim suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. CCTV cameras in the area captured the attack. Footage of the incident, which has also been circulating on social media, purportedly shows an assailant stopping the car on the opposite side of the road, with one of them rushing towards Haribabu and attacking him repeatedly with the sharp weapon. He was allegedly attacked around nine times before the man ran back into the car and they fled the place.

Police reached the spot following information about the murder and shifted Haribabu’s body to the Government General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Investigators are now looking into old enmity as a possible motive, particularly Haribabu’s alleged murder of his wife Vaishnavi about a year ago.

Vaishnavi, a YouTuber from Madhapur village in Korutla mandal of Jagtial district, was married to Haribabu. She was four months pregnant when she was killed.

Haribabu had allegedly slit her throat with a knife and also attacked her hands and forehead. Following a complaint from Vaishnavi’s father, police registered a case and arrested Haribabu. He was subsequently released on bail.
