There are some family milestones that become special because they carry a little piece of history with them. For former news anchor and the familiar voice of the Delhi Metro, Shammi Narang, his grandson’s first Metro ride was one such moment.

Narang shared a video on X capturing Rushaan’s first-ever ride on the Delhi Metro. The little boy appeared wide-eyed as he took in the station, platforms and train coach, seemingly trying to make sense of the unfamiliar surroundings.

But the biggest surprise came when the Metro announcements began playing in a voice he already knew well.

In the video, Rushaan was seen sitting with his family inside a train on the Yellow Line, with Narang holding his grandson as the familiar announcements played in the background. His parents were also seen encouraging him to recognise his grandfather’s voice.

For Narang, the moment carried a significance that went beyond a simple Metro ride.

“I may not travel on these Metro trains forever, but I take immense pride in knowing that my voice will travel from one generation to another,” he wrote in the caption.

He added that the voice could travel “from me to my little grandson, Rushaan, and perhaps one day to his grandchildren and beyond.”

The video captures Rushaan’s mixture of curiosity and bewilderment as he hears “Dadu’s voice” in a setting where he had never heard it before. Narang described the experience as seeing his grandson hear a voice he knows, but in an entirely new place.

The clip ends on a particularly sweet note, with Narang himself reciting one of the familiar announcements: “Agla station Sultanpur,” before saying goodbye to the Metro.

He was equal parts amazed and bewildered to hear Dadu’s voice echoing through the train a voice he knows, but in a place he had never heard it before. The video has garnered nearly 40,000 views and prompted several nostalgic reactions from viewers. One X user summed up the sentiment, writing, “That’s so sweet!! I can imagine what a moment of pride for you and the family.”

For Rushaan, it was his first Metro ride. For his grandfather, it was a reminder that some voices become part of memories long after the journey ends.- Ends
