Man burns 2-year-old son's fingers on hot plate, assaults wife with broom; case filed

A man has been booked in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly assaulting his two-year-old son and wife in Kalyan, police said on Saturday. The police said the accused allegedly slammed the child on the floor and pressed the toddler's hand on a hot plate, reportedly because the boy used to avoid him at home.

The accused, Rahul Suresh Visale, and his wife Rohini are facing marital disputes, with one matter having earlier reached a court, an official from Bazarpeth police station said. He added that Visale has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, but has not yet been arrested.

According to Rohini's complaint, the incident took place at around 11 pm on September 13 at their home in Parnaka in Kalyan West. The official said Visale became angry when he saw the child avoiding him and then slammed him on the floor.

"Visale then pressed the child's hand on a hot plate, resulting in three of the child's fingers getting scalded. The accused also assaulted Rohini when she intervened to protect her child. She was hit with a broom," the official said.

The official said the couple had been facing marital disputes and that one matter had earlier reached the court. "The court recently advised Rohini to live with her husband for two months to attempt a reconciliation. Following these directions, Rohini had moved from her parents' home back to her husband's residence at Parnaka," he said.

In her complaint, Rohini said her husband held resentment over their past disputes, which led to the assault on her and their child, the official said.
