A man from Perumkuzhy died on Monday, a few days after he was allegedly assaulted by police personnel. The death has prompted his family to lodge a complaint against the Chirayinkeezhu police.

The deceased, identified as Saji, 42, reportedly collapsed at his home and died on Monday morning. His relatives allege that he had been assaulted by police officers in front of his house on October 2.

According to the family, Saji intervened when police allegedly assaulted a neighbour. They claim that he was then beaten by the officers, who left him in a weakened condition. He remained bedridden at home ever since and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chirayinkeezhu.

The relatives have alleged that the assault took place under the leadership of the Chirayinkeezhu Circle Inspector. They have submitted a complaint to the Attingal Deputy Superintendent of Police, seeking action against those responsible for the incident. The complainants also staged a protest.
