Man dies in private security custody

A 34-year-old man, who was allegedly subjected to violence after picking up two old bottles from garbage in a private housing society within the limits of Rawat police station, died mysteriously on Sunday while in the custody of the housing society’s security staff.  Police registered a case of murder by causation and launched an investigation. According to sources, Rawat police registered a case under the charge of murder by causation on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Shehzad Yousaf.  In his complaint, he stated that his 34-year-old brother Adnan Yousaf worked at the private housing society and was the father of three children. His wife and children lived in their village. He said they were at their home in Abbottabad when they received a phone call informing them that the body of their younger brother Yousaf was at the hospital of the private society.  Upon reaching the hospital, they met Abdul Aleem, who said he was a friend of Yousaf and had a close relationship with him. He said the two had gone to Phase 8 of the society to deliver gas cylinders. He went to Ata’s flat to deliver the cylinder while Yousaf remained standing near the motorcycle. When he returned after delivering the cylinder, he saw Yousaf picking up two bottles from a garbage bin. Meanwhile, a man identified as Aqeel Ahmed stopped Yousaf from picking up the bottles and called the private housing society’s security.  When the security team arrived, Ahmed allegedly continued punching Yousaf in the face in the presence of the security team, causing him to fall to the ground. Blood started coming from Yousaf’s mouth and nose. He said he stopped Ahmed, who allegedly threatened him, saying he should remain silent or he would also be dealt with.  The private housing society’s security staff intervened, put Yousaf in their vehicle and told Ahmed and him to reach the police post. He said that when he reached the shop 20 to 25 minutes later, he was informed that Yousaf’s body was lying at the society’s hospital.  Yousaf's family was located and informed, as was the police emergency service. The private housing society’s security staff further told police that Yousaf had jumped from the moving vehicle while being taken to the police post in the presence of supervisor Sajawal Niazi.  He allegedly fell on the road, sustained injuries and died. The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. The case further stated that Ahmed and the private housing society’s security staff were involved in Yousaf’s death. According to police, an initial examination showed blood coming from Yousaf’s nose and mouth, while marks of violence and abrasions were found on his body.  Yousaf's post-mortem had been conducted, and the final situation would become clear after the forensic report. Police officials said a case under Section 322 for murder by causation had been registered and an investigation launched.
