Man finds bestie in 77-year-old flight co-passenger who called ChatGPT 'sir'

A techie’s fellow passenger turned out to be a 77-year-old aspiring entrepreneur, who spent their flight working on a vertical farming business plan with ChatGPT, and politely addressing the AI as “sir” along the way.

X user Teknosaur shared the wholesome encounter online, posting pictures of the elderly passenger working on his phone during the flight.

He wrote that the 77-year-old was using ChatGPT to work on his vertical farming business idea before the flight took off.

However, what caught his attention even more was the way the passenger spoke to the AI, addressing it with the same politeness one might use when speaking to a person.

The techie shared a screenshot of the passenger’s conversation with ChatGPT, where he could be seen writing, “Oh wonderful guidance sir. Thanks a lot and I will come back to you sir. Let me download both files sir.”

The unexpected interaction did not end there. Teknosaur said the two ended up chatting throughout the flight and jokingly described the elderly passenger as his new “bestie”.

“77-year-old grandpa on my flight was cooking up a vertical farming business plan w/ ChatGPT until takeoff, and he calls the AI ‘sir,' the respect!” he wrote.

He added that the man was “more locked in than all of us”, clearly impressed by his enthusiasm for exploring a business idea with AI.

The post soon amused users on X, with many joking that the passenger’s politeness towards AI might just save him in a hypothetical future where machines turn against humanity.

Some users even wrote that the AI overlords would remember anyone who consistently said “please” and “thank you."
