Man gets 20-year rigorous imprisonment for sexual harassment of minor

A special court for the exclusive trial of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Friday convicted and sentenced a 65-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing a six-year-old girl.

According to prosecution, the accused identified as V. Selvam of Vanur, sexually harassed the girl when she was playing in front of her house on November 7, 2020. The girl’s parents lodged a complaint with the Vanur police who arrested Selvam.

Special Court Judge M. Vinodha sentenced Selvam to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also ordered that ₹4 lakh be given as compensation to the girl.
