Man killed in brutal stone attack near police station, kin alleges targeted attack

A man was killed after being attacked with stones near the main gate of a police station in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, triggering protests and tension in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Sekun. According to police, the accused allegedly struck Sekun on the head with stones multiple times during a fight. He was taken to a hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

Police have detained the accused in connection with the incident. Alwar SP Sudhir Chaudhary said the accused was mentally impaired and that police were trying to question him. Police are investigating all aspects of the incident, including the reason behind the attack.FAMILY ALLEGES TARGETING OVER RELIGIOUS IDENTITY

Sekun’s elder brother alleged that his brother had gone to the market to buy agricultural medicine when the incident took place. He said Sekun worked in farming and had no previous enmity or dispute with anyone, according to the family.

The brother alleged that Sekun was targeted because of his religious identity, pointing to his beard, cap and clothing. He alleged that the accused repeatedly struck Sekun on the head with stones, resulting in his death.

Sekun was a father of three children, his family said.

News of Sekun’s death led to protests outside hospital, where family members, villagers and people from social organisations gathered. Members of the Muslim community and Congress leaders also joined the protest.

The protesters demanded that SP Sudhir Chaudhary and the district collector reach the spot and hear their concerns. They said they would not allow the post-mortem to be conducted until the two officials met them.

The body has been kept in the mortuary of the district hospital.

Former MLA Safia Khan and a large number of members of the Muslim community also staged a sit-in outside the Baroda Mev police station. A heavy police deployment was made in the area amid tension.FAMILY QUESTIONS POLICE RESPONSE

Sekun’s family has also raised questions over the police response, alleging that the attack took place near the main gate of the police station and that police personnel present there did not intervene in time.

The family has demanded strict action against those responsible and sought justice in the case.

They have also demanded compensation from the government, an investigation by a special investigation team and a fast-track court hearing in the case.
