Man posts 'last YouTube video', suicide note on WhatsApp before dying in house fire

A 64-year-old man was found dead after a fire broke out at his house in west Delhi, with police saying preliminary findings point to suicide. Investigators said the man had shared a suicide note on WhatsApp note before his death. He had also uploaded a video on YouTube, calling it his last video.

The man, identified as Vijay, had been living alone as a tenant in the Old Shahpura area for around five years, police said. His body has been preserved at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police received information about the fire at around 3.26 am on Saturday. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control. After the fire was doused, a severely burnt body was found inside the house.

Police said the body was identified by Prakash Chauhan, a resident of Subhash Nagar. During the preliminary investigation, cops discovered the suicide note in WhatsApp message. He had also uploaded a video on YouTube in which he said he was taking his own life and that no one should be blamed for his decision.

In the video, Vijay addressed his daughter and told her that he loved her and would miss her. He said he was setting himself on fire so his family would not have to go through the stress of his cremation. He also expressed a wish that his daughter immerse his ashes in the Yamuna.
